HopeHealth is seeking an experienced Clinical Operations Vice President for its affiliate Hope Hospice & Palliative Care Rhode Island. This position will be located in Providence, RI.

The VP of Hospice Clinical Operations is responsible for providing leadership, oversight and coordination of hospice clinical services in multiple settings in two states (home, facility, inpatient hospice unit). The VP will provide direction, structure and support to the organization's Patient Care Managers to ensure high quality, patient and family satisfaction, employee engagement and financial performance. Responsible for the direction of hospice clinical services resulting in the delivery of exceptional patient care. Establishes, implements and evaluates goals and objectives for hospice services that meet and promote the standards of quality and in accordance with strategic and operational objectives.

Working closely with the Director of Hospice Quality, the VP will ensure patients and families receive appropriate, safe and effective care while meeting all applicable state and federal regulations. The VP will also work with the Director of Education to support the development and implementation of organizational education programs designed to build clinical and operational excellence. Ensures all federal and state rules and regulations are met for areas of responsibility. Provides direct supervision and mentoring of clinical leaders to create a positive learning and quality culture in all patient care areas in the dynamic healthcare environment. Builds loyalty to the mission and adds strength to the executive team and clinical leadership team through strong communication techniques and collaborative role modeling.

  • Leads and inspires the clinical leadership team to develop programs, processes and initiatives to provide compassionate, comprehensive, high quality care and service excellence.
    • Displays the motivation, confidence and emotional maturity to function in a leadership capacity
    • Builds, develops and manages a clinical leadership team who will carry out operations strategies, maintaining and nurturing a highly competent, motivated and productive staff
    • Promotes staff recognition
  • In conjunction with the executive team develops and implements the organizations strategic plan.
  • Complies with federal and state laws and regulations, organizational policies and determines monitors for compliance by all staff in patient services. Addresses areas for improvement identified by the compliance department.
  • Displays the motivation, confidence and emotional maturity to function in a leadership capacity:

  • Develops and monitors operating budgets with successful performance within agency approved budget as measured by financial performance, proper number of FTEs, cost per patient/day, cost percentages of net patient revenue in order to meet budget.
  • Supports access to care through establishing, refining or creating new clinical services or programs needed to meet the needs of our healthcare partners.
  • Collaborates with business development to support organizational growth
  • Participate as an active supporter of the organizations compliance program, including an emphasis to report, as well as complying with all Federal, State and Local laws as well as the organization's compliance program.
  • Fulfill all responsibilities related to the success of the strategic plan of the organization, as requested and assigned.  
  • Thorough understanding of Hospice Conditions of Participation, Medicare Hospice Benefit, RI and MA state regulations for Hospices and Joint Commission/CHAP standards
  • Knowledge of hospice reimbursement
  • Actively participates in Senior Leadership, Hospice Clinical Leadership, Emergency Preparedness, Performance Improvement and other internal committees as required. Participates in BOD Quality and Compliance and Ethics committees, and other governance or external committees as needed.
  • Fosters a culture of excellence in professional standards of practice with an emphasis on professional development and customer service.
  • Meets routinely with team leaders and department managers to communicate information and solicit input to support compliance and effectiveness of clinical operations.
  • Conducts periodic and annual performance evaluations on direct reports.
  • Promotes HopeHealth among health professional and in the community.
  • Effectively prepares for and ensures adherence with all Rhode Island, Massachusetts and federal regulations and accreditation standards so that HopeHealth's hospice meets or exceeds them.
  • Actively participates in the preparation and administration of the agency's budget for clinical services demonstrating:
  • Ability to analyze and report statistical data.
  • Fiscal responsibility for appropriate use of resources.
  • Monitoring expenses to ensure quality care is being provided within operational budget
  • Interprets indicators to detect census changes and increases or decreases in volume that could impact staffing levels, revenues or expenses.
  • Meets regularly and systematically with the COO on matters related to management of clinical areas.
  • Assists with the evaluation of organization performance via clinical metrics to assure the quality and safe delivery of hospice services.
  • Promotes effective communication between disciplines and departments


Education / Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in nursing is required, with a Master's Degree in nursing or business related fields preferred.
  • Hospice experience in multiple settings with a minimum of five years of progressive management experience required.
  • Must be a registered nurse; licensure in Rhode Island and Massachusetts will be required.
  • Hospice experience required.
  • Experience with electronic patient charting/medical records required.
  • Must possess a demonstrated ability to lead people and achieve results through others. Experience in implementation of initiatives and budget management required.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication, collaboration, and presentation skills necessary.
  • Strong customer service orientation needed.
